Zhengsai Group Wheat Harvesting Ceremony on Saline-Alkali Land

Jul 15,2025 67

 On May 24, 2025, Zhou Wei (former expert of the Three Gorges Office of The State Council and the Ministry of Ecology and Environment), Wang Hanjie (Professor at Tsinghua University and Dean of Guojie Research Institute),  Ibrahim Saker AI-Mssallem (Professor at King Saud University),  Li Gang, (Professor at Peking University and Head of the State Council Task Force), Wang Gang (former Director of Dengfeng Water Conservancy Bureau), Wang Jie and Wang Juren (China International Engineering Consulting Co., Ltd.), Zhang Peng (College of Grain, Oil and Food at Henan University of Technology), and Hu Qingshi (Henan Longma Film Co., Ltd.), all gathered at the Zhengsai Wasteland Improvement Base to attend the wheat harvesting ceremony on severely saline-alkali land in Zhengsai and witness the practical effect of transforming wasteland into fertile farmland.

It is reported that in September 2023, Zheng Sai Group partnered with China Aluminum Mining Corporation to conduct an experiment on soil-free greening covering and closure of a red mud storage yard of Chinalco. , This land has been barren for decades due to the pH value of red mud as high as 13. Zheng Sai Group applied its patented technology, which requires neither soil covering nor freshwater irrigation, to enable green vegetation to grow on severely saline-alkali land within 30 days. On May 24, 2025, the attending experts observed that the wheat growing on the severely saline-alkali red mud land showed good growth, appearing no different from wheat grown in ordinary soil. Additionally, the experts visited the trial sites where red mud storage yards had been transformed into grasslands and tree-planting areas.

Subsequently, led by Wang Fuzhou, Chairman of Zheng Sai Group, the attending experts inspected the trial base for transforming slopes into fertile farmland in Gaoshan Town, Xingyang City. They observed four wheat fields that all relied solely on natural rainfall, among which three fields treated with Zheng Sai's water retention technology showed significantly better wheat growth than the one field without such transformation. The wheat in the treated fields had more, longer, and thicker tillers and ears. In the spring of 2025, despite a severe drought in Henan, measurements of the weight of 20 ears showed a 127% increase (in the treated fields compared to the untreated one).

In the conference room of Zheng Sai Group, Chairman Wang Fuzhou further introduced the situation of the saline-alkali land improvement base by the seaside in Cangzhou City, Hebei Province, which is a collaboration with the team led by Qie Zhihong (Dean of Hebei Agricultural University). He also connected via live link to update the progress at Zheng Sai's bases in the Tengger Desert, Ulan Buh Desert, and Taklamakan Desert. Wang Fuzhou presented Zheng Sai Group's mission to the guests:

· To make the Yellow River clear;

· To transform deserts into oases;

· To ensure cities are leak-proof;

· To turn rooftops into farms;

· To prevent roads from collapsing;

· To convert gullies into fertile farmland;

· To green mining areas.

 After the meeting, the attending experts spoke one after another, highly recognized Zheng Sai's result-oriented technologies in soil and water conservation, desertification control, geospatial ecological restoration, and the collaborative governance of water hazards, sand hazards, and solid waste. They noted that these technologies hold significant economic and social significance and proposed scaling up promotion efforts to raise awareness among more government departments and benefit a broader population. A professor from King Saud University also stated that these technologies are equally suitable for arid and semi-arid regions in the Middle East, carrying important implications for global food security and climate change mitigation. He expressed the intention to establish a China-Saudi Geospatial Ecological Restoration Innovation Demonstration Base in Saudi Arabia to assist in realizing Saudi Arabia's 2030 national vision of a "Green Saudi Arabia."
