Steel materials and concrete products have been in use for over 100 years, and the existing market inventory is incredibly vast.
Rusting of steel products and aging of concrete are universal problems worldwide. Currently, there is no effective technology to address these issues in steel structures and concrete. Most old steel structures and concrete have to be scrapped and replaced. However, the high cost of scrapping and replacement makes this solution unfeasible. Many accidents occur with no other choice but to let them happen. The main problem with steel structures is corrosion; the primary issues with concrete include water leakage, cracking, carbonation, frost damage, honeycombing, strength, and so on.
